ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE AT DGGAC

As per the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997 – an act to prohibit ragging in educational institutions in the State of Tamil Nadu, the Anti-Ragging Committee has been functioning in DGGAC since January 2014.

Ragging has been a major concern in educational institutions, often leading to psychological distress, physical harm, and academic setbacks for students. To combat this issue, our college has established an Anti-Ragging Committee to prevent, monitor, and take strict action against any instances of ragging. The Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Activities of the Committee

  • Orientation Programme – Educating new students about their rights and ways to report ragging incidents. Every year, an orientation programme is conducted during the First Year Induction Programme.
  • Awareness Campaigns – Organizing seminars, pledge-taking events, and distribution of anti-ragging handbooks.
  • Anti-ragging Awareness Initiatives:
    • Placing display boards containing information about ragging and contact details of Anti-Ragging Committee members.
    • Printing information in the Student Calendar about ragging and its punishments.
    • Updating information about ragging and the Anti-Ragging Committee on the college website.
  • Anonymous Complaint Mechanism
    • Placing complaint boxes for discreet reporting of ragging incidents.
    • Taking necessary action against the complaints received regarding ragging inside and outside campus.
  • Regular Inspections – Surprise checks are conducted in hostels, canteens, and other student gathering areas to ensure an anti-ragging campus throughout the year.
  • Counseling and Rehabilitation – Providing psychological support to victims and reformation programs for offenders.
  • Strict Disciplinary Actions – Imposing fines, suspension, or expulsion based on the severity of the offense.
  • CCTV Installation and Monitoring – CCTV cameras are installed and monitored both on the college campus and in hostels.

Legal Framework and Reporting

Students can report ragging incidents through the following methods:

  • Contact Anti-Ragging Committee members at the college (details are displayed on the Notice Board, College Website, and Student Calendar).
