The inaugural function of the students union for the year 2019-2020 was held on 31.08.2019 in the college. The union in-charge and Head, department of Chemistry, Mrs. R.Subha welcomed the gathering. The Principal Dr. D. Aravazhi delivered the presidential address and also introduced the new courses B.Com and B.B.A. started in the college during this academic year.

The Chief Guest of the day, Mayiladuthurai MLA, Mr. V. Radhakrishnan, inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and delivered his special address. In his special address, he emphasized the importance of higher education and empowerment of women. He assured to allot fund for providing furniture for the newly started courses and he will take effort to bring new course B.Sc. Botany in the college during the ensuing academic year.

Mr. S. Ali, MCWS Head, Athur, A. Selvaraj, President Co-op Bank and Mr. N. Ranganathan, Ex-MLA delivered their felicitation address.

The office bearers of the students council took their pledge. Finally the student president, Miss. S. Janani, proposed the vote of thanks.

The NSS units of the college conducted First Aid Training Programme for the NSS volunteers on 22.8.2019. The NSS Programme Officer (Unit – IV), Mrs. R. Seethalatchmi Welcomed the Gathering. The Principal Dr. D. Aravazhi delivered the Presidential Address. JCI President, Jc. C.P. Saravanan, and Secretary, JCI, Jc. J.R. Sathish Narayanan, felicitated the programme.

The Chief Guest of the day Meenakshi Hospital, Thanjavur, Dr. A. Saravanavel M.D., HOD Emergency Department, gave awareness and training on First Aid. He insisted on the primary goals of first aid – Preserve Life, Prevent Further Injury, Promote Recovery.

He discussed the various first aid procedures and gave tips on first aid for burns, heat and cold stroke, choking, drowning, head injuries, bleeding, insect-bite, dog-bite and snake-bite. He also trained the students on the CPR and recovery position.

Finally, the NSS Programme Officer (Unit – II), Mrs. D. Sivayogam, proposed the vote of thanks. The NSS volunteers of all the four units attended and got benefitted out of the programme.

D.G.Govt. Arts college for women celebrated International Yoga day (IYD-2019) on 21st June 2019 with theme 'Yoga for Climate Action'. The aim of the International yoga day is to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. Mrs. R. Seethalakshmi NSS programme officer Unit-IV offered welcome address.

The Principal in-charge Dr.K.Ponni (HOD of English) delivered the presidential address. Mrs. S. Sathyavathi delivered a special lecture on “Life through Yoga” and also gave a practical session on various asanas.All the Unit NSS volunteers and staff members actively participated in the practical session and got benefited out of the programme.

Dr. S. Sumathi, NSS programme officer Unit –I and Mrs. D. Sivayogam, NSS Programme officer Unit-II coordinated the programme.Mrs. R. Seethalakshmi NSS programme officer Unit-IV offered welcome address.

In DG Govt. Arts College there is a provision for forming a Students Union. The office bearers are elected by the class representatives to manage the affairs of the Union under the guidance and supervision of the Principal. Hence an election was held in the beginning of the academic session after the admissions are over. The purpose of this election was to provide a sort of democratic training to the students at the college level and to teach them how to become good citizens. The system also trains the students to shoulder responsibilities.

Assistant Professors were appointed as the polling officers. After polling, the votes were counted by the officers in the presence of the student agents and the results were declared by the Principal.

The Student’s Union consists of different office bearers such as the President, the Vice – President, the General Secretary, the Treasurer, the Fine Arts Secretary, the Sports Secretary, the Tamil Secretary, the SSL Secretary and the Magazine secretary. The elected students indulge in many college activities with the help of their fellow students.

The Department of Economics of the D.G.Govt Arts College for Women organized Entrepreneurship Development Programme in liaison with Entrepreneurial Development and Innovation Institute on 16.07.2019. Dr.V.Thandabani, the HOD of Economics, D.G.Govt.Arts College (W), was the overall incharge of the programme. In the programme, Dr.D.Murugan, the Co-ordinator of the Programme, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, D.G.Govt Arts College, offered welcome address. Inaugural address was delivered by the Principal in-charge Dr.K.Ponni (HOD of English).

It was followed by a briefing of the programme by Mr.A.Sivanesan, Joint Secretary to the Government, Training Co-ordination, Chennai. Dr.S.Sureshkumar, I.A.S, District Collector, Nagapattinam District, delivered a brief lecture on women entrepreneurship and enlightened the audience as to how the women can play a vital role in entrepreneurship and the importance of entrepreneurship in providing avenues and opportunities for employment of women in informal sector. Dr. S. Kalaivanan, Entrepreneurship Development and Institute, delivered an enlightening lecture on "Introduction to Basic Entrepreneurship Definition and characteristics of Entrepreneurs”. The lecture was highly educative to the UG and PG students and also faculty who participated in the programme. It was succeeded by a lecture by the same resource person on "Idea generation - Project Selection - Steps to Start Business".

He has also delivered another lecture on "Business Opportunity Guidance: Agricultural Manufacturing Trade Service”. After a lunch break, a couple lectures on (i) State Industrial Policy Schemes and Services and (ii) Bank - schemes and services for SMES, were delivered by Mr.M.Sekar, G.M. DIC, Nagapattinam District. Further, after a short break for tea, the last session concluded with a lecture on "Success story by a successful entrepreneur" by Mrs. Rajamaheswari. Finally, Dr.S. Indira Devi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, offered vote of thanks.
