HISTORY OF ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT
The Department of Economics was started with B.A. Degree course with the sanctioned strength of 35 students (with both medium of instruction) in the academic year 1974-1975. The Post Graduate course M.A., Applied Economics was introduced in the academic year 1997-98.
The sanctioned staff strength of department is 12. In the year 1996, we had 6 permanent staff members and 8 in the 2000. In the year 2007, the department had 4 permanent staff members and 5 Guest Lecturers. In the year 2011, we had 5 permanent staff members. At present the department has 2 permanent staff members and 10 Guest Lecturers. Among the 10 Guest Lecturers, 2 with Doctoral degree, 9 with M.Phil and 3 with SLET qualification.
In the department of Economics Shift – II was established in the year 2007. The sanctioned students strength is 35. The department is producing nearly 100 students per year.
To improve the knowledge in various fields our staff members attended courses and seminars in different places.Our department Library has enough books for improving the knowledge of staff members and students. Group discussion and seminars are conducted to improve the subject knowledge and learning ability of the students. Economic Association meeting for both PG & UG courses are conducted every year, resource persons are called to create awareness and leadership quality among the students.We are very proud to say that, our PG students are acquiring University rank regularly from the inception of M.A. Applied Economics.Many of our students have well placed as lecturers is Universities, teachers in various educational institutions, Police department and other state government offices.
